On the 6th February 2020 the Statutory Legacy will increase from £250,000 to £270,000. This is where an individual dies intestate (without a Will).

Example: Mr and Mrs Smith are married with two children and they own their property as Tenants in Common. Mr Smith dies without a Will in place (intestate). From 6th February 2020 the Statutory Legacy of £270,000 of Mr Smith's estate will go to Mrs Smith with the remaining estate being split 50% to Mrs Smith and the remaining 50% divided equally between the children.
